Service interruption via unbounded PBE iterations
Published Oct 2, 2026 · Updated Oct 2, 2026
CPU-exhaustion denial of service in Bouncy Castle C# .NET before 2.7.0 allows attackers to stall decryption with crafted encrypted private keys. PbeUtilities.GenerateCipherParameters accepts an iteration count from unauthenticated key parameters without a limit and completes key derivation before checking the password or decrypted data. Exposure requires an application to decrypt attacker-supplied PKCS#8 keys or CMS password recipients; repeated submissions can occupy every worker thread.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
