CPU exhaustion via unbounded CMP MAC iterations
Published Oct 2, 2026 · Updated Oct 2, 2026
CPU-exhaustion denial of service in Bouncy Castle C# .NET before 2.7.0 allows remote attackers to stall CMP/CRMF processing via crafted requests. PKMacBuilder accepts a sender-controlled PBMParameter iteration count without a ceiling when callers do not select its explicit-maximum constructor, so verification repeats the hash as requested. Exposure requires an application to pass untrusted CMP messages or CRMF certificate requests to the affected verification APIs; the resulting CPU load can interrupt that application's service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
