Authenticated account takeover via ungated API tokens
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Authentication bypass in Snipe-IT before 8.7.0 allows remote authenticated users to obtain persistent API access without 2FA. CheckForTwoFactor protects the web middleware group but not the API group, letting a password-authenticated session mint a personal access token before completing its second-factor challenge. Exploitation requires a 2FA-enabled account with self.api permission and its password; an administrator token can reset 2FA and enable web-account takeover.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
