FTP inspection evasion via fatal parser state
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Improper exceptional-condition handling in Suricata before 8.0.6 allows remote attackers to evade FTP inspection with crafted commands. The FTP parser in src/app-layer-ftp.c treats RETR or STOR before PORT or PASV negotiation as fatal and stops parsing the remaining TCP flow. Remote attackers must send the sequence through monitored traffic; IDS rules and logs can miss later FTP commands, while IPS mode drops the flow.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
