Service interruption via retained SMB transactions
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Denial of service in Suricata before 7.0.17 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.5 allows remote attackers to exhaust CPU and memory via SMB traffic. The SMB parser force-completes transactions after SMB_MAX_TX but retains them when the unseen direction remains uninspected, then repeatedly scans the growing list. Sustained one-directional SMB payloads are required, and successful exploitation interrupts network inspection through CPU and memory exhaustion.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
