JavaScript execution via annotation-xml encoding removal
Published Oct 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026
Mutation XSS in rust-ammonia Ammonia allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via crafted HTML in non-default configurations. The check_expected_namespace function treats annotation-xml as an unconditional HTML integration point, accepting descendants whose interpretation changes after encoding removal. Exploitation requires explicitly allowed math, annotation-xml, and a raw-text HTML element, disallowed encoding, and browser rendering of sanitized output; execution occurs in the application's origin.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
