Heap overwrite via mismatched IFF tile copy
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in affected OpenImageIO releases allows attackers to corrupt heap memory through a crafted ZBUFFER-only tiled IFF file. IffInput::read_native_tile() copies 32-bit internal pixels according to m_header.pixel_bytes() into a buffer sized from a 16-bit public ImageSpec, while a failed read leaves m_buf nonempty for a later partial-data copy. The target application must parse the file and call read_native_tile() with a correctly sized tile buffer; the overwrite can corrupt application memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
