CVE-2026-63358

Authenticated root escalation via unchecked chmod permissions

Published Jul 21, 2026 · Updated Jul 21, 2026

Incorrect permission assignment in FileGator before 7.14.2 allows local users with chmod permission to gain root privileges. The /chmoditems endpoint converts an arbitrary permissions value with octdec() and sends it to PHP chmod() without validating allowed Unix permission bits. An account granted the application's chmod permission is required; successful exploitation changes critical file modes and results in root-level privilege escalation.
