Server crash via oversized Host interpolation
Published Oct 1, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026
Stack overflow in mod_vhost_alias in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.0 through 2.4.68 allows remote attackers to crash a worker via a long Host header. During VirtualDocumentRoot hostname interpolation, vhost_alias_checkspace fails to reject a Host-derived segment larger than its fixed stack buffer before copying it. Exposure requires a hostname format specifier and a LimitRequestFieldSize setting above the default; Apache also identifies arbitrary code execution as a potential consequence.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
