Denial of service via unsafe archive directory creation
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Path traversal in Malcolm before 26.07.0 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt file processing via a crafted archive. In filebeat/scripts/safe-extract.py, extract_libarchive passes raw directory entry paths to os.makedirs without confining the resolved target to the extraction directory. ROLE_UPLOAD access is sufficient; escaped directories can block expected log-file paths or exhaust inodes and disk metadata, but cannot write files or execute code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
