Authenticated pipeline crash via unbounded archive extraction

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Malcolm before 26.07.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash its filebeat processing pipeline. The extract_libarchive loop in safe-extract.py creates every archive entry without limiting entry count, nesting depth, expanded size, or resulting inode use. Access requires ROLE_UPLOAD, and inode exhaustion stops core ingestion and can disrupt services sharing the same filesystem mount.
