Backend session theft via unescaped media filenames
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Stored XSS in REDAXO Core 5.21.1 and earlier allows attackers to run script in a backend user's browser through a media filename. The Mediapool Sync page inserts filenames from $diffFiles into labels, input values, and lists without applying rex_escape(). Exploitation requires placing an unregistered metacharacter-bearing file in the media directory and a backend user with media[sync] permission opening the page, enabling session theft or unauthorized backend actions.
