Container escape via pre-merge restriction check

Published Aug 21, 2026 · Updated Aug 21, 2026

Incorrect authorization in Linux Containers Incus before 7.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to escape a restricted project. The cross-project copy path calls AllowInstanceCreation before createFromCopy merges all non-volatile source keys into the request, so target restrictions never evaluate the final configuration. Exploitation requires permission to view a dangerously configured source instance and create an instance in a restricted target project; starting the copied privileged container grants escape to the Linux host.
