Server crash via unbounded Alpine package metadata parsing
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Memory exhaustion in Gitea 1.27.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to crash the server via Alpine package uploads. The upload handler parses archives before checking quotas, and ParsePackageInfo appends .PKGINFO dependency and provides entries without bounds on decompressed data or entry counts. Exploitation requires package-publish permission; highly compressed uploads exhaust memory and disrupt availability on memory-constrained deployments.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
