Adjacent-network code execution via DNS out-of-bounds write
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Windows DNS in Microsoft Windows allows remote attackers to execute code via adjacent-network DNS traffic. Microsoft has disclosed only that the flaw is an out-of-bounds write in the DNS component; the exact parser, record type, and memory write primitive remain undisclosed in public records. Exposure is limited to systems that accept attacker-reachable DNS traffic on an adjacent network, and the published impact is code execution rather than a denial-only failure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
