Privilege escalation via link-followed file access
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Link following in Windows DHCP Server on Windows 10 1607 and 1809 and Windows Server 2012 through 2025 allows local users to gain elevated privileges. Microsoft has not published the affected DHCP Server code path, but the CWE-59 classification shows that the service follows an attacker-controlled link before opening a file with service privileges. Exploitation requires local authenticated access to a host running the DHCP Server role; successful abuse can redirect a privileged file operation into a protected target and fully compromise that system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
