Privilege escalation via CLFS TOCTOU race
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Race condition in the Windows Common Log File System Driver in Microsoft Windows allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. Microsoft has not published the exact code path, but the advisory describes a time-of-check/time-of-use flaw in CLFS and separately maps the issue to CWE-125, which supports a stale-check to later-read condition in kernel log handling. Exploitation requires local code execution with existing low privileges and precise timing, but a successful race can compromise the full host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
