CVE-2026-62721

Local privilege escalation via overbroad UMPS access control

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Improper access control in Microsoft Windows User-Mode Power Service allows local authenticated users to gain SYSTEM privileges. Microsoft has disclosed only that UMPS enforces access control with insufficient granularity; public records do not identify the specific RPC, object, or state transition that accepts an overbroad request. Exploitation requires local code execution with low privileges and no user interaction, and successful abuse yields full control of the affected Windows host.
