Physical code execution via UDFS heap overflow

Remote code execution in Microsoft Windows UDFS in supported releases before the August 2026 fixes allows attackers to run code via crafted physical media. Microsoft has disclosed only that the Universal Disk Format File System Driver contains a heap-based overflow and also mapped the bug to integer overflow or wraparound, without identifying the UDF parsing routine or malformed field that corrupts heap memory. Exploitation requires physical access to present a malicious UDF-formatted disk or image to a target system, and successful parsing can yield kernel-context code execution rather than mere file disclosure.
