CVE-2026-62696

Local privilege escalation via integer underflow

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Privilege escalation in supported Microsoft Windows releases before the August 2026 security updates allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. Microsoft describes an integer underflow in the Program Compatibility Assistant Service, but public records do not identify the affected routine or the operation that wraps on user-supplied input. Exploitation requires code execution on the host and access to the local service path; retrieved records do not show remote reachability, public exploit code, or confirmed in-the-wild exploitation.
