Hypervisor crash via FIFO event-channel state race
Published Jul 28, 2026 · Updated Jul 28, 2026
Race condition in Xen 4.5 and later allows guest OS users to crash the hypervisor through concurrent event-channel hypercalls. EVTCHNOP_expand_array reads the FIFO-enabled state without the required event-channel lock, allowing EVTCHNOP_reset to clear the backing array before it is dereferenced. Any malicious HVM guest on x86 or Arm can cause a host-wide service interruption; for x86 PV guests, memory corruption and privilege escalation remain unresolved potential impacts.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
