Authenticated command execution via shell-concatenated upgrade fields
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
OS command injection in KubeEdge allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands on targeted edge nodes through NodeUpgradeJob. The v1alpha2 handler concatenates user-controlled spec.version and spec.image values into a keadm upgrade edge shell command, allowing metacharacters to change its operation. Creating or updating the resource requires permission, and successful exploitation runs with the upgrade process's privileges, exposing node data, integrity, and service availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.12.0, < 1.21.2
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.22.0, < 1.22.2
