Account takeover via unverified OIDC email linking
Published Oct 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 9, 2026
Authentication bypass in Vikunja 1.0.0 through 2.3.0 allows remote attackers to take over local accounts via OIDC email fallback. In pkg/modules/auth/openid/openid.go, fallbackSearchUsers matches local accounts by email without checking email_verified or the account password. Exploitation requires non-default emailfallback and a trusted issuer that accepts the victim's unverified email, granting read, write, and delete access to that account's data; TOTP protects enrolled accounts in 2.3.0.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
