User-to-administrator escalation via self-update role assignment
Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026
Privilege escalation in Apache Syncope allows remote attackers to gain administrator entitlements through a crafted REST API call. The user self-update workflow accepts requested role assignments and grants their defined entitlements without administrator approval. Reachability requires the all-Java adapter or a Flowable process lacking approval; affected releases are 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.6, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.1.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.0.0-M0 <=3.0.16
