Unauthorized table relocation via privileged background worker
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Missing authorization in pg_partman before 5.5.0 allows remote authenticated users to move retained child tables into unauthorized schemas. The retention functions accept any nonempty part_config.retention_schema value, and the worker executes ALTER TABLE SET SCHEMA under its configured role. Exploitation requires partman_user access and a retention run by a more privileged background-worker role, enabling unauthorized relocation rather than SQL injection.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
