Server crash via uncaught Host parse error
Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 17, 2026
Denial of service in Faye websocket-driver before 0.8.2 allows remote attackers to crash servers via a malformed Host header. In lib/websocket/http/request.rb, the request parser passes HTTP_HOST into URI.parse while deriving SERVER_NAME and SERVER_PORT and does not catch URI::InvalidURIError on malformed input. Exposure is limited to TCP-backed WebSocket servers that use WebSocket::Driver.server(); a single malformed upgrade request can terminate the process when the application leaves parse() exceptions unhandled.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
