Unauthorized photo starring via missing visibility checks
Published Oct 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026
Access-control bypass in Lychee before 7.6.1 allows remote attackers to alter private photo stars through the highlight API. BaseApiRequest::validateResolved() fetches photos before authorization, and PhotoPolicy::canHighlight() accepts anonymous callers without checking photo visibility. Exploitation requires the non-default photos_star_visibility=anonymous setting and guessed photo identifiers; differing responses disclose photo existence, while unauthorized writes change star status rather than expose image contents.
