CVE-2026-61477

Root command execution via dnsmasq directive injection

Published Aug 7, 2026 · Updated Aug 7, 2026

CRLF injection in libvirt on affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root. The network XML parser accepts numeric LF or CR references in DNS TXT values and SRV domain or target attributes, then writes them verbatim into dnsmasq configuration. The user must already have permission to define virtual networks; an injected dhcp-script directive executes with dnsmasq's root authority.
