CVE-2026-60004Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via diffpatch Git hook

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

Code injection in Gitea 1.17 through 1.27.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute shell commands through the diffpatch API. Applying the same attacker-controlled patch twice in a shared bare clone makes Git's three-way fallback write an executable post-index-change hook under $GIT_DIR, where Git runs it as the Gitea service account. Default open registration lets remote attackers obtain repository write access; exploitation also requires Git 2.32 or later and writable, executable temporary storage.
