Worker exhaustion via unchecked automation regex
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
ReDoS in Tandoor Recipes before 2.6.10 allows remote authenticated users to hang application workers through recipe-import automations. In cookbook/helper/automation_helper.py, apply_regex_replace_automation passes Automation.param_2 directly to Python re.sub() without complexity validation or an execution timeout. Exploitation requires storing an automation and importing matching recipe content in the same Space; catastrophic backtracking occupies Gunicorn workers until request timeout, and concurrent imports exhaust worker slots.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
