Service interruption via repeated whole-file recovery scans
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Uncontrolled resource consumption in py-pdf pypdf before 6.14.0 allows remote attackers to delay PDF processing with malformed cross-references. In _read_standard_xref_table, each corrupt entry triggers a regular-expression scan over the remaining file instead of reusing one parsed object map. Any application that parses an attacker-supplied PDF in non-strict recovery mode can consume CPU for an extended period and delay its PDF-processing service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
