Arbitrary shell execution via spec-supplied install command
Published Jul 16, 2026 · Updated Jul 16, 2026
Command injection in Microsoft Kiota before 1.29.1 and 1.30.0 through 1.32.4 allows attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands. The kiota info command emits an OpenAPI description's x-ms-kiota-info dependencyInstallCommand verbatim as a recommendation and in JSON consumed by the VS Code extension. Execution requires an attacker-controlled or compromised description and either a developer running the recommendation or the extension invoking its dependency-install action.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
