Application crash via closed-channel data callback
Published Jul 21, 2026 · Updated Jul 21, 2026
Use-after-free in Red Hat libssh packages allows remote authenticated users to crash callback-driven applications through closed channels. In channel_rcv_data() in src/channels.c, incoming channel DATA messages remain processable after remote closure, so callbacks access channel state after teardown or freeing. Exploitation requires callback-driven channel handling, such as an SFTP-backed consumer, and the bounded reported consequence is a process crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
