CVE-2026-59844Network attack vector

Authenticated denial of service via oversized SFTP reads

Published Jul 21, 2026 · Updated Jul 21, 2026

Resource exhaustion in libssh SFTP servers on affected Red Hat products allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service. The sftp_make_client_message() and process_read() path accepts a client-controlled SSH_FXP_READ length without a reasonable bound and uses it to drive memory allocation. Repeated requests after SFTP authentication exhaust server memory, restricting the demonstrated consequence to availability loss.
