Client-side script execution via data URI redirect
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Apnotic Password Pusher before 2.8.1 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via malicious URL pushes. The valid_url function in app/models/push.rb accepts any parsed URI with a non-nil scheme, and the push viewer redirects to the stored payload with allow_other_host enabled. Anonymous push creation is enabled by default, but a recipient must click the trusted Password Pusher link before the data:text/html document executes and can present phishing content or steal browser-accessible credentials.
