Denial of service via unbounded OER recursion
Published Aug 3, 2026 · Updated Aug 3, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in Bouncy Castle Java OER parsers allows remote attackers to crash a parsing thread or JVM with crafted IEEE 1609.2 data. OERInputStream.parse(Element) follows SEQ, CHOICE, and Supplier children without a depth counter, while a deferred schema cycle returns to Ieee1609Dot2Data. Exploitation requires an application to pass untrusted data to ETSISignedData or ETSIEncryptedData; affected releases are Java 1.70 through 1.84, Java LTS 2.73.0 through 2.73.11, and FIPS bcutil-fips 2.0.0 through 2.0.6 or 2.1.0 through 2.1.6.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
