Protected metadata overwrite via incorrect authorization
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Incorrect authorization in GitLab CE/EE allows remote authenticated users to overwrite protected Maven package metadata in protected projects. The Maven Package Registry applies incorrect authorization checks to Developer-role metadata publication, so package protection rules do not block the write; GitLab has not disclosed the code-level locus. Reachability requires Developer access and configured package protection rules, and the bounded consequence is protected metadata modification rather than code execution or disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=17.11 <18.11.6
- Affected versionversion=19.0 <19.0.3
- Affected versionversion=19.1 <19.1.1

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
