Remote service crash via SIG(0) validation race
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
Use-after-free in SIG(0) validation in BIND 9 allows remote attackers to crash named via crafted signed DNS traffic. During validation, reaching the recursive-clients limit discards the same DNS message while the validator can still read it. An unauthenticated query flood must hit the limit in the race window; both authoritative servers and resolvers can abort, while code execution is unlikely.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=9.20.0 <=9.20.22
- Affected versionversion=9.20.9-S1 <=9.20.22-S1
