Guest-to-host code execution via HGFS stack overflow
Published Oct 7, 2026 · Updated Oct 7, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in HGFS in VMware Workstation and Fusion 25H2 and 26H1 allows local users to execute host code. Broadcom identifies HGFS as the vulnerable component but has not disclosed the specific handler or input operation that overflows its stack buffer. Exploitation requires local administrative privileges inside a virtual machine and executes code with that VM's host-side VMX process privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
