Album takeover via unchecked editor role changes
Published Jul 15, 2026 · Updated Jul 15, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Immich before 3.0.3 allows remote authenticated users with album editor access to take album ownership. AlbumService.updateUser authorizes role changes with the editor-granted AlbumShare permission, then writes any requested member role without protecting the owner. An editor can demote the owner, promote the editor account to owner, delete the album, and evict members.
