External-secret disclosure via unrestricted expression resolution
Published Jul 15, 2026 · Updated Jul 15, 2026
Information disclosure in n8n before 2.28.1 allows remote authenticated users to read external secrets through workflow node expressions. The workflow expression resolver expands external-secret references outside the credentials scope without enforcing the caller's explicit secrets-access permission. Project editor access and a configured external secrets provider are required, and the bounded consequence is plaintext disclosure of secrets available to the instance.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
