Process crash via unchecked Cineon element count
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Stack buffer overflow in affected OpenImageIO releases allows attackers to crash image-processing applications via crafted Cineon files. CineonInput::open() trusts the file-supplied numberOfElements value as a loop bound and writes pointers beyond the fixed strings[8] stack array. Exploitation requires an application to open the attacker-supplied file; the documented consequence is adjacent-state corruption and process termination.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
