Memory disclosure and crash via unchecked node indices
Published Jul 21, 2026 · Updated Jul 21, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in Data::SortedSet::Shared before 0.03 allow local users to disclose adjacent memory or crash a process via a crafted backing file. The attach-time ss_validate_header check bounds only root, while rank and min/max paths trust children[], leftmost, and rightmost indices from the mapped file without checking node_capacity. Exploitation requires write access to a backing file; files default to owner-only mode 0600, and cross-user exposure requires an explicitly permissive mode.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
