Administrative takeover via unchecked RBAC role assignment
Published Jul 2, 2026 · Updated Jul 2, 2026
Incorrect privilege assignment in Weaviate before 1.38.0 allows remote authenticated users to obtain administrative database control. The user and group role-assignment handlers check permission to assign a role but not whether the caller holds every permission granted by that role. Delegated assign-and-revoke permission is sufficient to assign the built-in admin role or an equivalently privileged custom role.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
