Local privilege escalation via unchecked GNSS image copy
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
An out-of-bounds write in Google's Android kernel GNSS image loader allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. link_load_gnss_image adds a user-controlled offset to the mapped GNSS firmware base and copies a user-selected size without checking the region bounds. Exploitation requires local System execution privileges and no user interaction; a successful write corrupts kernel-accessible memory.
