Local privilege escalation via nested STE logic error
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Privilege escalation in the Android kernel allows local users with System execution privileges to obtain elevated privileges without interaction. The smmu_install_nested_ste function in arm-smmu-v3.c applies incorrect logic while installing a nested stream table entry, but Google has not disclosed the faulty condition or state transition. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges on an affected Pixel-family device and produces a local privilege boundary bypass.
