Private repository metadata disclosure via stale watches
Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026
Information disclosure in Gitea 1.26.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read private repository metadata via the API. The API EditRepo path calls updateRepository when changing a repository from public to private, but that helper clears stars without calling ClearRepoWatches, leaving former watchers subscribed. Exploitation requires a watch created while the repository was public; the subscriptions response exposes repository description, default branch, language, and other metadata after access is removed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
