Authenticated forbidden file distribution via unchecked attachment rename
Published Aug 13, 2026 · Updated Aug 13, 2026
File-type restriction bypass in Gitea 1.26.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to serve forbidden release attachments. EditReleasePost passes attacker-controlled attachment-edit names to UpdateRelease, which writes them with UpdateAttachmentByUUID without calling upload.Verify against Repository.Release.AllowedTypes. Repository write permission and a configured nonempty allowlist are required; the renamed file is served under the prohibited extension.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
