CVE-2026-58421Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded CODEOWNERS regex backtracking

Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026

Regular expression denial of service in Gitea 1.26.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to make the server unresponsive. The CODEOWNERS matcher compiles repository-supplied patterns with regexp2 without sanitization or a match timeout, enabling exponential backtracking against a crafted pull-request file path. A registered user with an owned repository can submit parallel pull requests that hold database transactions, exhaust the connection pool, and interrupt service for all users.
