Privileged command execution via unsafe XSLT extensions
Published Sep 3, 2026 · Updated Sep 3, 2026
Code injection in GeoNetwork opensource before 4.2.17 and 4.3.0 through 4.4.11 allows remote authenticated users to execute OS commands. The formatter renderer configures Saxon without secure processing or disabled Java extensions, so uploaded XSL stylesheets can invoke Runtime.exec or ProcessBuilder. Exploitation requires sufficient formatter-upload privileges and runs commands with the GeoNetwork process user's access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
